2 Samuel 6:11 The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.
Heaven, our hearts, and any place where there is praise are the three places that signify where God resides. The Ark of the Covenant was one of the most important representations of faith and God’s presence in the Old Testament and was a medium that God utilized to communicate with his people. Therefore, it becomes crucial to keep our bodies and hearts as a home for God.
How come Obed was blessed, then?
2 Samuel 6:6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.
The answer to the question is that Obed-Edom was courageous and willing to take the ark of the covenant to his home even after seeing the gruesome killing of Uzzah because, after this incident, everyone was terrified and unsure of whom they were supposed to give it to. Similar to this, just as Obed-edom was willing to accept it, if we also allow God to reside in our hearts, he will do so and continue to bless us.
People may believe that nothing is occurring and all that occurs is suffering and problems from time to time, but the truth is that in order for things to change and for our plans to be successful, either we must be where God is, or God must remain within us.
What occurs after we allow God to remain within us?
In Isaiah 57:15, for this is what the high and exalted One says- he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
When God is around us, everything is possible because God will revive our hearts and spirits. Therefore, we should continuously pray to God to help us to be like Obed-Edom and remain by our side while he blesses us.
