We have all experienced the sting of abandonment or the fear of being left behind. Whether it’s a broken relationship, a lost opportunity, or the heavy silence of an unpredictable season, it is easy to look at our surroundings and conclude, “I am completely on my own.”

1. Shifting Your Mindset: The Battle for Your Blessings
Pastor Dennis opened the sermon with a sobering reality check: Many believers inadvertently block their own blessings through their thought lives.
We often become our own worst critics, allowing anxiety and negative mindsets to dictate our expectations. When hard times strike, we immediately look inward and try to find a reason why we are being punished. This mental loop is precisely how we drift away from the peace God has laid out for us.
To break this cycle, we have to recognize the difference between the voice of the enemy and the voice of the Father:

The Devil’s Tactic: Satan will constantly remind you of your past flaws, mistakes, and generational struggles to plunge you into depression, whispering that you are unworthy of God’s goodness.

God’s Way: God approaches you based on His love and the identity Christ bought for you on the cross. He looks past your current chaos to focus on the destiny He has placed inside you.
2. The Story of Jacob: Chosen Despite Flaws
To understand why God remains faithful even when we stumble, we have to look at the life of Jacob.
By all human standards, Jacob was a highly flawed individual. He was a deceiver and a trickster. He schemed with his mother to steal his brother Esau’s birthright and blatantly lied to his blind father, Isaac, to secure the family blessing. When we find Jacob in Genesis 28, he is a fugitive running for his life, isolated in the wilderness, sleeping with a literal stone for a pillow.
Yet, it was in this exact state of vulnerability and failure that God opened the heavens to him. Jacob saw a ladder stretching between heaven and earth with angels ascending and descending, and God Himself speaking words of generational blessing over him.
Why did God look at a deceiver and promise never to leave him?
Because Jacob was carrying a seed of promise. The covenant God made with Abraham was passed down to Isaac, and it was now resting inside Jacob. God didn’t validate Jacob’s bad behavior, but He valued His own prophetic covenant above Jacob’s immediate flaws. God saw the message inside the man.
In the same way, when you come under the grace of Jesus Christ, God looks at the blood of His Son that cleanses you. He sticks by you not because you are perfect, but because He is faithful to fulfill the promise He began in you.
3. What Occupies Your Conversation?
The Pastor brought a sharp, necessary challenge regarding how we speak and think in our daily lives.
“If you ask a believer about their problems, sicknesses, or how the enemy is attacking them, they can passionately explain it for an hour. But if you ask that same believer to talk about what Jesus has done for them, they can barely fill ten minutes.”
When our problems dominate our vocabulary, it is a sign that the Word of God is not occupying enough space in our hearts.
Jesus said in John 15:7: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
When you choose to stop meditating on your fears and start circulating the scriptures in your mind, a spiritual shift occurs. You erect a “heavenly ladder” over your home. Your perspective flips from earthly distress to heavenly authority.
Final Thoughts: The Lord Holds You Fast
Stop counting yourself out. You are not too broken for God to use, and you are not too far gone for Him to reach. Throw away the fear of failure or the anxiety of the unknown, and anchor your soul to the scripture. The God who tracks the sparrow and gives life to the smallest creatures hidden deep inside a stone is the very God watching over your steps today.
