Verse
Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3
Thought
Tongue carelessly lashed out can destroy our spiritual life. Many of us try to be careful and speak only things that bring glory to God and words that edify others. But at times we speak and sin. As the word says in multitude of words there is no lack of sin. Who can control his tongue? David who used his mouth most to worship God, in these verses is asking the Lord to set a guard on his mouth. Surrender your mouth to God, He not only puts the right word in your mouth but He will stop your words when you are going to speak wrong things, Surrender! Ezekiel said,” When I did not speak your words my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth”. Jeremiah said,” When I did not speak your words it was like fire in my bones”. Speak abundantly, the word of God, no careless talks, and no more coarse talks.
First century believers used to say, angels in heaven used to wait for Barnabas to pray (source ‘Search For 12 Apostles’ – book). Is heaven waiting for you to speak? Every word what you speak should release the power of heaven. Lord Jesus said, “Speak to the mountain”. The Word says, “Tongue has the power of life and death”. Commit your mouth to the Lord. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks; if your heart is for Jesus then you will speak His words. John in his gospel said, Word became flesh; Word of God is Jesus, so release Jesus into every situation by your words.
Prayer
Lord, sorry for using my mouth for my selfishness, Lord please set a guard on my mouth. Let me speak words that will only bring glory to God. Amen.
