Verse

Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. Mathew 4:11

Thought

The devil left Jesus and went away defeated, after trying all the tricks he had. Jesus defeated everything. Jesus set us an example here how to tackle the temptation of the evil one. Remember he has only three schemes.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh[1] and the lust of the eyes[2]  and the boastful pride of life[3], is not from the Father, but is from the world.

Fist lady(Eve) fell for this trick Gen 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food [1], and that it was a delight to the eyes[2], and that the tree was desirable to make one wise[3]

1.      Lust of the flesh : The first temptation picks up immediately on the fact that Jesus was hungry, that he had not eaten for forty days. The tempter said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Mat 4:3, evil one tries to get you compromise on things at the point of need. When we are in need, remember to run to Jesus and not listen to the liar.

Remember: Esau lost his birth right …

Solution: Mat 4:4 It is written, “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Jesus actually quoted the verse Deu 8:3. At the point of your need get the answer from Bible and have promise for every need and situation.

2.      Lust of the eyes: Next satan tries to make us satisfy our carnal desires; devil tries to make us do; that looks desirable at that moment and tells us, its ok. Mat 4:5 “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU’; And ‘ON Their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’” Will you believe satan quoted Ps 91:11,12 back to Jesus. I know he shivers because of this verse.

Remember: Samson fell for Delilah ..

Solution: Mat 4:7 Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.’” Again Jesus quoted Deu  6:16. Awesome! Simple do not try to lead God, but be lead by God, that joy is so greater than what the world can give.

3.      Pride of life: evil one puts into us the love of power, desperation for recognition. Mat 4:9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”. satan tempts Jesus by telling forget cross, this world i will give just worship me. Yes devil gives us shortcuts to the final goal without God, be careful; waiting with God is growth.

Remember: Herod fell due to pride …

Solution: Mat 4:10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'” Jesus quoted Deu 6:13. When our focus and priority is Jesus, we will never desire the power of the world.

Prayer:

Lord; lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil. Lord; anoint me that I will never fall down by the schemes of the devil. Lord; help me to live a holy life. Amen.
