Verse
“Because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction” 2 Thess 1:5
Background
Paul wrote this letter to church of Thessalonians to encourage them, share his love for the church, also clarify on what happens to believers who die and few other things. He starts by explaining how the gospel was shared to them. How should gospel be shared ? When will the gospel be received ? Can it sustain the claims made ? We are blessed to get these insights from Paul opening statement to Thessalonians.
Lesson
First and foremost, Paul says gospel was not presented with fancy words or as human entertainment package. But it was shared with power. Did power mean to be just being loud, we see Paul preaching was confirmed by the deliverance Lord had given to his listeners, a drastic change in lifestyle and miraculous physical healings, Why are we not able to present the gospel in the same way? Why is the gospel not bringing similar stories in our lives? Paul answers that too, it is not in human abilities, key portion in the verse “with the Holy Spirit”.
Prayer
Father Lord, it your promise that we will receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We long for the promise to be fulfilled in our lives that we will share the gospel with power and deep conviction. Amen
