“he began to speak, praising God” Luke 1:64b
God told to Zechariah through Gabriel a great promise “Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John” Luke 1:13 Since Zechariah did not believe, Gabriel told “And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words” Luke 1:20 So till the child is born Zechariah will be mute.
Now the promise has been fulfilled, child is born, “On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child” Luke 1:59, but Zechariah is still mute. Did Zechariah and Elizabeth wonder for those 8 days will Zechariah ever speak anymore?
According to the promise, the child was supposed to be called John, and when Zechariah wrote the child’s name. “.. he wrote, His name is John. Immediately his mouth was opened” Luke 1:63,64a there is power is writing down the promise of God.
