Verse
May it fall on the head of Joab and on all his father’s house; and may there not fail from the house of Joab one who has a discharge, or who is a leper, or who takes hold of a distaff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread 2 Samuel 3:29
Thought
Israel (10 tribes) was controlled by Abner a commander who betrayed David. Joab was the commander of David (who was king of 2 tribes). Previous Abner had killed Joab’s brother. Now Abner came to David with peace so that David will be appointed as king for Judah and Israel. Joab tricked Abner after that and called him near and killed Abner to avenge his brother death. David was shocked, and David just pronounced God’s judgment on Joab that his whole generation will suffer as mentioned in the above verses. We know Joab was killed at the altar by Benaiah after David death.
Lesson learnt
1. Lord will surely pay the evil what people do. So let us not be having any bitterness, for what others do. Lord pays back; let us not try to pay back.
2. David had the spirit of Prophecy and He never took the action in his hands. He waited on the Lord to act. David knew the heart of God. Joab failed becuase He took vengence in his hands. In your heart did you start taking vengence…
3. Lord is very serious about the wrong doings of ours. Let us be very careful that we do not hurt nor harm anyone. Lord’s standards are high.
Prayer
Lord, vengeance belongs to you. The battle is always yours. Lord, teach me to know your heart and my heart will be always dedicated and committed to obey you. Amen.
