Verse
“The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough” Num 20:12
Thought
The people of Israel on their way to Canaan reached Meribah. In that place “there was no water … They quarreled with Moses” Num 20:2,3. Moses and Aaron went from the presence of people and went into the presence of God. “fell facedown, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them” Num 20:6. Do we in our trouble go to God’s feet, wait till we see the Glory of God. Lord asked Moses and Aaron to gather all the people and “Speak to that rock” Num 20:8. Moses did the same but instead of speaking, “Moses .. struck the rock twice with his staff” Num 20:11. Water gushed out but Lord was angry and told “you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” Num 20:12. 40 years Moses was travelling to reach Canaan, now Lord is telling you will not enter Canaan. Why what was Moses’ mistake?
Moses gathered the people at the rock, so it was not unbelief. Lord Himself tells the mistake “you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy” Num 20:12. Moses trusted the Lord could give water out of the rock but not just by speaking. Do you trust the Lord ENOUGH? If not, you are bringing dishonor to God. This mistake, even lead to the immediate removal of Aaron from the post of High Priest and He died. Lord’s standards are very high for His children. This incident is mentioned in following places also Deu 33:8, Ps 95:8, Ps106:32, Ex 17:7, Deu 32:51. How serious it was in the sight of the Lord. For a child of God it is not about trusting but did you trust enough.
Prayer
Lord, I am sorry for not trusting you enough. Forgive me for bringing dishonor to you by not trusting enough. Amen.
