Isaiah 2:6-12
The Day of the Lord
6 You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and clasp hands with pagans.
Lord left His children because they are –
1. Full of Superstitions: Running after sun signs, moon signs when the Lord said day or night will not affect you. Always thinking; people, dress, particular time, strange practices will bring good fortune, when Lord said I am always with you. Running away from bad omens, when Lord said I will never leave nor forsake you. Are we like this?
2. Practice Divination: Soothsaying, calling on spirits, witch craft, speaking out spells, celebrating devils day, many cartoons, movies to books; spirit of darkness is displayed as part of fun. Do we get into practice of the world?
3. Clasp Hands with Pagans: Getting in partnership with things that is against the spirit of truth. Fornication, Adultery, telling lies, gossip, gambling, and many more obvious sins, Lord’s children compromises.
7 Their land is full of silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots.
All the above practices are considered ok, if the person is prospering in the physical realm. Lord says the people were full of silver, gold, horses, chariot and treasures, but Lord had abandoned them. Prosperity is not the measure of spirituality.
Jesus told a story of a man called Lazarus who died as a poor man but after death sitting on Abraham lap. So remember being poor or going through suffering does not always show spiritual weakness. Yes Lord prospers His children. But importance is spiritual prosperity.
8 Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made.
Land was full of idols, this is just not what is made to worship, but also things made by hand on which people depend upon and that has taken the place of God. Anything in the world that has taken the place of God is an idol (it could be your talents, job, your loved once anything – when these become you source of sole dependence).
When we see our nation full of idols all around, are we broken, do we cry out to God that He may open the eyes of the people.
9 So man will be brought low and mankind humbled— do not forgive them.
Lord not only abandons them but also brings them low; destruction is on its way. Judgement is inevitable, but His mercy is just holding it back. Once the Lord starts, then no man no principalities can stop, it will be terrible.
10 Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from dread of the LORD
and the splendour of his majesty!
And once Lord pours out His wrath in His splendour, earth will shiver like leaves, oh were will man run, go into the rock, hide in ground, you will have no place to run. Pay back time is sure, you are in which side, if you are with God, you need to be burdened to bring the people of the other side of destruction into everlasting life.
11 The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.
That day, when Lord ALONE is exalted, rest all brought low and humbled. No man nor satan himself can stand that day. Evil one knows he is held of destruction. Demons seeing Jesus asked in Mat 8:29″Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
To live in obedience is an awesome joy, compared to all the splendour of the world.
12 The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled),
When is that day, we do not know, Father Lord alone knows. But there is a day of pay back. There will be final judgement throne.
When we are living in this world also, Lord pays back at His perfect timing, for all the proud and lofty to be brought low
The day – The time of God’s taking vengeance upon sinners.
