And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarrelled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not? Exo 17:7
Story: Directed by God, the whole company of Israel moved on by stages to Canaan, and when they came to Rephidim; there wasn’t a drop of water for the people to drink. The people took Moses to task. They complained to Moses, “Why did you take us from Egypt and drag us out here with our children and animals to die of thirst?” Moses cried out in prayer to God, God asked Moses to strike the rock. And Water gush out of it and the people drank.”
Lesson: Lord was displeased by the way people responded when they faced a lack. Through the Bible, the Lord speaks of Massah means testing and Meribah means quarrelling. When we face a lack how do we respond to it, do we question God or do we ask for help. When we are in trouble, do we test God by murmuring or do we trust God. Whole plan that Lord has for us might be hindered if we react to tough times in an ungodly manner, we know all Israelites who grumbled perished.
Prayer: Father Lord, forgive us to limit you in our tough times. We confess one who directs will deliver. One for plan will provide. Amen.
