David has been a wonderful person who exalts God and fears God, and at different times has been honest and truthful.

2 Samuel 9:1 David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

King Saul’s son is Jonathan. Given that Saul made every effort to assassinate David and work against him, David shouldn’t assist or show kindness to anyone associated with the Saul family, but he still asks about the Jonathan family. This shows David walked with the adage, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” long before it appeared in the New Testament.

Jonathan’s son and Saul’s grandson is Mephibosheth. In the past, people kept names by the incidents or experiences they had as a result of them. Mephibosheth’s name means “dispeller of shame.” The man was born into the royal family, but when he was a young child, while he was carried by his servant during a war, his legs broke. Humans caused it; it wasn’t a natural event.

Mephibosheth is currently living in Lo Debar, a place without a pasture. Everything suggests that, despite being a member of the royal family and the grandson of a king, he led an unfulfilling, damaged, and miserable existence, just like his name and the name of the city in which he resides.

Now, why should David help this person? due to David’s covenant with Jonathan, his friend. In 1 Samuel 20:14-15, while I am still alive, please be kind to me. Continue to love me, as the Lord loves his people. And if I die, continue to be kind to my family. Even when the Lord removes every one of your enemies from the earth, do not forget about my family.’

just like David’s covenant with Jonathan. In a similar way, God, who was crucified for us, established a covenant with us. comparable to 1 Corinthians 11:25  “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. ” God showed his grace by crucifying himself and spilling his blood on us. This gift brings blessings, wealth, peace, joy, and security.

If your life is anything like Mehibesheth’s, who is living a troubled, gloomy, unhappy, broken life, then God is saying to you, “My grace is sufficient for you”. God is aware of everything and will do the right things at the appropriate time. As stated, “God who feeds the birds, will also feed those who are of greater worth than birds,” so God will deliver you from all of those circumstances.

Like David asks about the family of Jonathan to show kindness because of his covenant with Jonathan, so too, God will demonstrate his kind hands as he has also made a covenant with us.
